DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INDIGENOUS AND EXOTIC BREEDS OF COW

FLAP OF SKIN BENEATH THE NECK  IN INDIGENOUS (DESI) COW

The excess skin beneath the neck acts as a regulator of body temperature for Desi cows.

Desi Cows survive extreme cold and heat because of their inherent ability to control the body temperature.

Additionally, cows have good control over muscles and can move just the part we touch them. This is a formidable ability and helps ward off flies and other insects carrying disease causing germs.

WELL-DEVELOPED BACK

The back side of the cow is rounded and well developed.

DESI COW – TAIL

The tail is long and can rotate 360 degrees to ward off insects and birds

EXOTIC COW HAVING NO FLAP OF SKIN  BENEATH THE NECK

Exotic Cows don’t have the excess skin beneath the neck, which acts as a regulator of body temperature.

Thermo-regulating capacity is absent in the Exotic cows, which are easily prone to diseases and sickness.

Exotic breeds like Jersey and HF are not sensitive as Desi Cows and hence more prone to diseases like ‘Mad cow’.

SHARP EDGED BACK

The exotic breeds have sharp features as against the rounded and curved features of Desi cow.

EXOTIC COW – TAIL

Exotic breeds have short tails and can only rotate 180 degrees and serve very little.
