Thiruvananthapuram: 46% have hypertension and 14% have diabetes

Causes of Kidney disease in Thiruvananthapuram:  Hypertension, diabetes, indiscriminate use of analgesics, and alternative medicines that may contain heavy metals (people must be using ayerveda and lot of spices which may have heavy metals).

"It is important that we identify and treat the pre-disposing factors of CKD like diabetes and hypertension early in people. A recent study in Thiruvananthapuram city showed the prevalence of hypertension to be 46.7 per cent and that of diabetes 14 per cent. Another important cause of CKD is the indiscriminate use of analgesics and alternative medicines that may contain heavy metals," says A. Vimala, Professor of Nephrology Kozhikode MCH.
