Seems the body begins breaking down a specific amino acid in the epithelium of the intestine. Likely this is being done because the immune system has detected parasitic activity. As we grow older we do gain trillions more gut bacteria.
This particular amino acid is not considered essential but the body does steal it from collagen to continue. Over time, loss of collagen causes structural AND function decline.
In 2012, I applied for patent protection on a version of this amino acid that cannot be broken down in digestion. Funny, Jeanne Calment may have used a simple version of this molecule to live 123 years.
