Why replace one problematic food with another? In addition to mercury, dioxins, PCBs and other accumulated toxins, fish are often infested with parasites. Seafood continues to be deemed the most hazardous food in analyses of food-borne disease outbreaks.

'Nutrient content varies depending on the type of fish: Shellfish is especially high in selenium, and saltwater fish is high in iodine, Ms. McDaniel said.'
Look, I know this is not a term paper let alone an article in Nature, but can't the NYT make even the slightest effort to fact check the basic science and get it right?
Shellfish are not fish, but rather marine, briny or freshwater dwelling animals that are completely different to fish.
Is a platypus a fish because it dwells in streams? Is a whale a fish because it lives in oceans? Is a walrus a fish? How about a beaver and an otter?
Just as termites are not white ants, shellfish are not fish. No wonder most American adults are so clueless about basic science, deny global warming etc etc. It all starts with sloppy, lazy and inaccurate reporting like this.
