Low Carbohydrate, High Fats diet helps with candida problem

I was recently told, then I read and heard it elsewhere that candida feeds off animal protein. If I can't eat sugar, grains, or carbs due to candida, what's left? I tried high fat, moderate-low protein and had the worst stomach pains and trapped gas ever, even more so than when I ate carbs.
