Meal timings and circadian clock

timing of meals. Thoughts? Anybody eat before bed? Only in the morning? Only in the afternoon? Some people swear by not eating after 6pm and preach to everyone that this is one of the best things anyone can do to optimise health as you will spend a longer time fasting and sleep better. Any opinions on this? I suggest they will vary!

Gail Cashin I have a terrible habit of eating late 9pm or 10pm and then get energy and can't sleep. Done well today and ate at 6pm. I aim for twice a day, 7am and 7pm. And feel good if stick at those times.

Jim Fish What times do your body suggest to you?

I eat between 4p and 8p everyday.

Chris Cogswell I only eat between noon and 6-7pm most days. Sunday I try to hit a 24 hour fast and every 3-4 months I do 2-3 day water/black coffee fast to reset my immune system. Between this and ZC (very high fat) I've 99% cured asthma, polyps, arthritis, IBS etc.

Michael Frieze I don't have an opinion about this, but I eat usually in the evening after 7pm.

Esmée La Fleur I eat one meal at night. But I do this because food makes me feel bad and will ruin my day if I eat earlier. It has not made me fat.

Michael Frieze I don't really like eating early in the day. If I eat a big meal in the morning, I get a little tired for about an hour after eating.

I like to eat in the evening and relax while reading.

I feel fine in the mornings and throughout the after noon without eating. I start getting a little hungry around 3 or 4 pm. I don't mind being hungry and even sort of like the feeling, so I wait until a little later. Finally, when I get to eat, it is very enjoyable.

Gail Cashin What time Esmee and what time are you going to sleep?

Esmée La Fleur 6 PM would be ideal, but I am eating around 9 PM right now for reasons that are out of my control. I like to eat 3-4 hours before bed.

Gail Cashin Does it keep you awake like me?
LikeReply114 hrs
Esmée La Fleur Gail Cashin no it does not, but I don't feel great in the morning because my body is still working on digesting the food. But, I have major GI track issues that I now know are the result of MCAS, so I am not the best example of what will or will not work for others.

Gail Cashin I understand but know that you eat once a day and more meat in one sitting, I can be still awake at 3am sometimes after a large meal.

Esmée La Fleur Food generally makes me pass out LOL

Gail Cashin That's what I was like when eating carbs, I'd eat at work at 3pm and people would find me asleep in my office. Lol

Esmée La Fleur Gail Cashin I eat a high percentage of fat and I think that really helps relax my brain.

Gail Cashin ooh that's it, I've been eating more lean but not by choice. comes back to organising my self and going back to proper butcher who use to give me the free fat.

Gail Cashin When I first started I done steak and water and was amazing but not earning as much now so less steaks. But steaks do work better in my opinion. If I only have eggs in the morning and going to Pilates later I was having about 100g of cold beef about 4pm and then another 200g when I got in about 8pm but not doing that at the moment.

Gail Cashin Next week going to Makro, which is similar to costco so will check out the large sides of beef. I need to get organised again.

Lynda Raina I like to eat once, between 6pm and 8pm. It takes a couple of hours to digest and sometimes I feel uncomfortable and nauseous during that time. I won't go to bed until I feel good, usually 3-4 hours after eating, depending on how much fat I have had.

Tamara Wiesinger I'm just wondering if maybe it would be easier for the body of you ate twice instead of once? I tried eating once a day but I didn't feel good after so much food at once, for me eating twice is better. My stomache was aching and I felt uncomfortably stuffed for hours. Also I can't eat enough food for a day in one sitting.
LikeReply16 hrs
Lynda Raina I can't eat enough during my one meal either, I'm trying to build it up but somedays I'll eat twice a day. I'd prefer to eat once a day as my body seems to have trouble digesting food so digesting once a day is better than twice

Gail Cashin Ideally I would like a huge steak at 3pm once a day. That would be perfect but not possibly right now.

Hill Godwin Well I eat early in the morning but then again I keep odd hours I normally get up at 2am to start my day and eat my meal around 6 to 7 am

Amy Menke I usually eat one meal around 11:00/noon, but I do well eating my meal around 3:00/4:00 as well. I don't sleep well if I eat after 7:00pm--especially if the meal is fatty, so I prefer to do all my eating prior to 6:00pm.

Andrew Couper I am still very new to ZC. I still have 3 sittings per day. Bacon, jerky and then a broth or pork in the evening.
LikeReply213 hrs
Gail Cashin Nothing wrong with 3 sittings, what ever works in your daily timetable. Did you try the beef and water first? I found that really healing but was very ill.

Lily Pisal I try to eat only once a day, and that one meal usually falls anywhere between 10 and 2. The meal lasts no more than an hour. I don't eat after 3:00pm. I sleep better and lose weight more consistently this way. Eating beyond comfortably full (or grazing all day out of boredom) on ZC doesn't hurt me as much as it did on SAD, but it used to keep me from seeing consistent weight loss.

Tessa James I eat when I am hungry. The timing seems quite irregular:
Yesterday: 9 am, 7 pm, 12 pm, and 1.30 am.
Day before yesterday: 9 am, 1 pm, 6.15 pm, and 11.15 pm.

Jill Mitchell I have substantial breakfast about 7am. Lunch is another substantial meal, about 12.30. Then I fast till 7am next morning. I am sleeping better.

Monica Martin I have great sleep if I have a 6 hour gap between food and bed. If I eat later I take longer to go to sleep. 1 or 2 meals a day between 9am and 3 pm works wonderfully for me

Joe Teets I eat between 6 and 9pm, but considering eating earlier in the day. I often wake up with headaches in the morning which I attribute to eating late in the day. I wake up with a lot more energy when fasting the night before.

Karen Motlow my body hunger clock has pretty much always been 10:30am and again 4:30pm. however, when i was working out a lot, i ate at 3pm and again at 8pm which worked out well too. i've never been hungry upon arising. it doesn't seem logical to me that i/we should be hungry in the morning. when we had to hunt for food, i don't think we had leftovers lying around to eat first thing.
